What could be more festive than raising a glass of holiday nog on Christmas Day? How about a healthier version of the classic you remember? Get the goodness plant-based proteins like flaxseed, hemp, and spirulina. Not to mention high fiber. That's what you get with Gundry MD's ProPlant shake. Usually when I see the word "plant-based" on a protein shake, I run for the hills as it almost always means soy. But this protein shake is different. You get 10 grams of concentrated plant proteins and fiber designed to support optimum tissue repair, appetite regulation, and fat metabolism.

Plus it's delicious, and you can make all kinds of cool recipes with it, like this nog. Before we make it, let's also talk about polyphenols. These super-charged antioxidants help control inflammation. And they can make lectins easier to digest. In this drink, I've added two of my favorite sources of polyphenols — clove and barrel-aged spirits. I prefer the taste of clove over nutmeg any day, and the polyphenols from cloves are the most concentrated on earth.

For extra polyphenols, you can add a shot of barrel-aged whiskey or rum to this drink . Just don't overdo it, and please stick to one ounce of the hard stuff. Drink responsibly. And just for good measure, we'll throw in a green banana for some resistant starch. It adds extra body to this nog and our gut buddies love to munch on this kind of starch.

Now let's get to this great recipe.

The Recipe

LFG ProPlant Holiday Nog

In a good blender (I like Vitamix), add all the ingredients except whipped cream and spirits. Blend until smooth.

Step 2: Serve Up

Pour evenly into four martini glasses. To each glass add one ounce of whiskey or dark rum. Stir gently with a bar spoon.

Step 3: Garnish

Top each drink with a dollop of whipped cream. Dust with more ground cloves.
